AT&T Settles for $177 Million After Major Data Breaches

UPDATE: AT&T is facing significant repercussions following multiple data breaches, with customers eligible to claim compensation of up to $7,500. A historic $177 million class action settlement has been reached, impacting approximately 734 million current and former customers across the United States.
The first breach, reported in March 2024, exposed sensitive information from 2019 to 2021, including names, addresses, social security numbers, and account passcodes. Initially dismissed by AT&T, the stolen data later surfaced on the dark web, prompting a wave of concern among affected users.
In a subsequent breach revealed in July 2022, call and text records from AT&T customers were compromised, further exacerbating the crisis. Combined, these breaches have led to a preliminary settlement approval, with final hearings set for December 3, 2025.
AT&T stated,
“While we deny the allegations in these lawsuits that we were responsible for these criminal acts, we have agreed to this settlement to avoid the expense and uncertainty of protracted litigation.”
Affected customers are urged to act quickly – claims for the first settlement class must be filed by November 18, 2025. Those impacted by both breaches can file separate claims and potentially receive the full $7,500 compensation.
To file a claim, visit www.TelecomDataSettlement.com, where users must upload necessary documentation and await confirmation. Notifications have been sent out via email to eligible participants, but those who haven’t received one should still check their eligibility.
This significant settlement highlights the ongoing issue of data security in the telecommunications industry and underscores the urgency for consumers to be vigilant about their personal information. Stay tuned for developments as the final approval date approaches.
