Sask Polytech Open House Attracts Surge of Future Students
UPDATE: Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s Prince Albert campus has just concluded its highly anticipated Open House, drawing in a wave of prospective students eager to explore over 150 programs across trades, health, technology, and business. The event, which took place on October 9, 2025, featured two sessions from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., highlighting the institution’s commitment to hands-on learning and immediate career readiness.
Visitors engaged with instructors and recruitment staff, gaining insights into the numerous opportunities available and the chance to apply on the spot with a free application fee waiver, normally set at $100. “The purpose is to showcase all of the excellent programs we have,” said Ben Slowski, manager of strategic enrollment management, emphasizing the event’s focus on attracting students interested in practical career paths.
With a remarkable 96% graduation rate, Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s applied learning model is attracting attention amid rising local interest. The school collaborates closely with employers, ensuring its programs meet industry standards and effectively prepare graduates for the job market. “Our grads are really in demand,” Slowski noted, pointing to the institution’s strong ties with industry partners.
The Open House also featured interactive displays, including a demonstration of a drone used in the Geographic Information Science and Environmental Technology programs. Attendees had the opportunity to engage directly with instructors, gaining firsthand knowledge of the tools and techniques utilized in various fields.
As the educational landscape evolves, Sask Polytech is also adapting to significant changes in international enrollment due to recent federal policy adjustments. “Every post-secondary institution in the country has fewer international students now,” Slowski explained, signaling a shift towards strengthening domestic enrollment while ensuring accessibility for local students across Saskatchewan.
Conversations at the Open House centered around value, career outcomes, and stability, reflecting current student concerns about rising living costs and job market dynamics. “Students are really interested in return on investment,” Slowski stated, highlighting a growing awareness among future learners about the financial implications of their education.
The atmosphere during the Open House was charged with energy and optimism, showcasing Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s role in connecting education with real-world career opportunities. “Every conversation today focused on opportunity and career readiness,” Slowski remarked, underscoring the institution’s dedication to fostering a supportive educational environment.
Looking ahead, the Open House series will continue at Sask Polytech’s Moose Jaw and Regina campuses next week, further promoting the institution’s hands-on, industry-driven educational approach. This event remains a vital opportunity for students to discover their future paths and engage with programs that prepare them for the workforce.
