UPDATE: The City of Timmins and CUPE Local 1544 have reached a second tentative agreement, signaling a potential end to the ongoing transit strike that has halted services. After negotiations on Friday, officials confirmed that the agreement will now be presented to CUPE Local 1544 members for a ratification vote.

If union members approve the agreement, it will be forwarded to the Timmins City Council for final approval during its meeting on Tuesday. The city expressed optimism, stating, “If ratified, a plan will be put in place to restart transit service.”

As of now, all Timmins Transit services remain suspended, including conventional bus routes, paratransit service, and the Northern College Express. Commuters have faced significant disruptions, making the upcoming vote critical for restoring essential services.
