Alabama Edges No. 14 Missouri 27-24 with Simpson’s Late TD
UPDATE: Eighth-ranked Alabama narrowly defeated No. 14 Missouri 27-24 in a thrilling showdown in Columbia, Missouri, as Ty Simpson delivered a game-winning touchdown pass with just 3:16 left on the clock. The Crimson Tide’s victory marks their fifth consecutive win, solidifying their position as a powerhouse in the SEC.
Simpson threw for 200 yards and a total of three touchdowns during the clash, showcasing his skill under pressure. The decisive play came on fourth down when he connected with Daniel Hill from two yards out, sealing the win for Alabama (5-1, 3-0 SEC).
Missouri (5-1, 1-1 SEC) fought valiantly, with Beau Pribula attempting to rally his team late in the game. He managed to throw for 167 yards and two touchdowns, but his efforts fell short when Alabama’s defense intercepted his pass, effectively ending the contest.
Alabama’s Jam Miller added 85 rushing yards before leaving the game with an injury, while Kevin Riley and Isaiah Horton also contributed touchdown catches. This victory not only extends Alabama’s winning streak over Missouri to seven games but also snaps Missouri’s impressive 15-game home winning streak, the second-longest in the nation.
The game began with Missouri surprising Alabama, scoring first on a 26-yard touchdown from Pribula to tight end Brett Norfleet. However, Alabama quickly regained control, responding with a touchdown drive led by Simpson that evened the score.
The back-and-forth contest continued as both teams exchanged field goals, but crucial moments defined the match. Following a fumble by Simpson, Missouri tied the game at 17-all. Alabama responded with a go-ahead field goal, setting the stage for Simpson’s final touchdown.
As the clock wound down, Missouri attempted to stage a comeback, but Alabama’s defense proved too formidable, forcing two key turnovers. With less than a minute remaining, Alabama’s Dijon Lee Jr. intercepted Pribula’s pass, securing the victory and keeping Alabama in contention for the SEC title.
As the college football landscape shifts, all eyes will be on Alabama as they prepare for their next challenge. Fans and analysts alike are eager to see if the Crimson Tide can maintain their winning momentum in the weeks to come.
