Bruce Mines Trails Project Receives $4,000 Grant Boost NOW
URGENT UPDATE: The Bruce Mines Historic Trails have just been awarded a significant boost of $4,000 from the Retired Teachers of Ontario (RTOERO) to enhance and maintain local trails. This funding is part of a larger $104,000 grant distributed among 26 community projects in Ontario and British Columbia.
The Bruce Mines Trailblazers are set to utilize this funding to improve signage and accessibility, as well as to add amenities like benches that will enrich the outdoor experience for residents of all ages and abilities. This initiative aims to preserve the area’s unique mining history while promoting both recreation and education.
“The Bruce Mines Trailblazers have created a gathering place where residents can enjoy the outdoors, learn about local history and feel a sense of belonging,” said Wayne Greco, president of District 3 Algoma, RTOERO. “With this grant, we’re helping to ensure the trails remain an inspiring source of recreation, education and well-being for years to come.”
This grant is part of RTOERO’s community grants program, which has contributed nearly $2.2 million to over 600 programs since its inception 25 years ago. The program focuses on various initiatives, from environmental sustainability to fostering healthy and accessible communities.
“Our members have always been deeply engaged in the places they call home,” stated John Cappelletti, chair of the board at RTOERO. “Through the grants program, they’re able to extend that spirit of service and ensure meaningful initiatives receive the support they need to thrive.”
District 3 Algoma, which includes nearly 1,300 members, spans from Sault Ste. Marie to Spanish and Elliot Lake, reaching north to Wawa, Hornepayne, and Chapleau. The district plays a vital role in connecting members to their communities, fostering engagement and support.
This funding announcement highlights the ongoing commitment of RTOERO to enhance community well-being through local initiatives. The Bruce Mines Trailblazers’ project not only aims to improve outdoor spaces but also strengthens community ties by providing a platform for learning and togetherness.
Stay tuned for further updates as the project progresses and impacts local residents. This initiative is a clear reminder of the importance of community involvement in preserving natural and historical resources.
