Sudbury Classic Cruisers Donate $35,000 to Local Charities
URGENT UPDATE: Members of the Sudbury Classic Cruisers have just delivered an impressive $35,000 to local charities as part of their ongoing commitment to community support. The convoy of classic cars rolled through Sudbury, Ontario, on Friday morning, making stops at several vital organizations in need of financial assistance.
At their first stop, the Blue Door Soup Kitchen, club president Joe Gervais emphasized the urgency of their mission. “There is an enormous need to keep them fed,” said Bill Hickey of the soup kitchen. The donation aims to provide nourishing meals for the increasing number of individuals relying on their services.
Next, the Cruisers arrived at Genevra House, a shelter for women and children. Executive Director Marlene Gorman highlighted the pressing demand, stating, “We have 18 children in our shelter right now,” stressing the costs associated with essentials like diapers and baby formula. The shelter is currently at full capacity, putting a strain on their resources.
The convoy then made its way to the Sudbury Food Bank, bringing another $5,000. Executive Director Dan Xilon expressed gratitude for community support, stating, “The Sudbury Food Bank receives no government funding… the people of Sudbury have decided no one is going to go hungry on their watch.”
Their final stop was the Maison McCulloch Hospice, where Executive Director Julie Aube noted the dual impact of their visit. “It puts a lot of smiles on a lot of faces,” she said, acknowledging the morale boost the Cruisers provided to both staff and residents.
In addition to these donations, the club also contributed $10,000 to Independent Living Sudbury Manitoulin. Over the past 30 years, the Sudbury Classic Cruisers have raised more than $350,000 for local charities, showcasing their commitment to making a difference in the community.
As local charities continue to face growing challenges, the support from the Sudbury Classic Cruisers arrives at a critical time, emphasizing the importance of community solidarity. This initiative highlights how local organizations can come together to address pressing needs within the community.
