Improv Playhouse Launches Engaging Workshop for Adult Performers

Improv Playhouse in Libertyville has introduced a new workshop called IP Act 3, aimed at adults eager to rediscover their creativity and experience the joy of theater. This initiative invites individuals in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and beyond to engage in a 10-week rehearsal process that culminates in a fully staged, one-hour performance for family and friends.
The focus of IP Act 3 is on fostering a recreational atmosphere, prioritizing joy, camaraderie, and meaningful storytelling over competition and casting politics. The inaugural workshop, set to take place in fall 2025, will feature a special arrangement of Stephen Sondheim’s “Into the Woods (One-Hour Edition)”. This adaptation is designed to accommodate a diverse range of performers and abilities, making it an ideal choice for those returning to the stage or stepping onto it for the first time.
“Life has many acts,” said David Brian Stuart, founder and executive director of Improv Playhouse. “At Improv Playhouse, we believe IP Act 3 is one of the richest. We’re not about replicating community theater; we’re about creating community through theater. This is about celebrating creativity, friendship, and the thrill of storytelling. Because your story doesn’t end at 40, 50, or 60. It just gets better.”
The program will be led by the experienced directing staff at Improv Playhouse. Rehearsals are scheduled for Sundays and Mondays from 19:00 to 21:00. Two showcases will be held at the Improv Playhouse Mainstage or a partner venue, allowing participants to perform for their peers and family. Ticket pricing for these performances is yet to be announced.
Tuition for the workshop starts at $450 for early registration, rising to $495 for general enrollment. This fee covers all coaching, direction, and materials, with payment plans available to accommodate participants. Notably, no auditions are required to enroll. Instead, participants will undergo a skills and potential assessment during the first sessions to ensure that each performer is cast in a manner that highlights their strengths.
For more information, interested individuals can contact Improv Playhouse Theatre & Training Center at 130 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville, by calling 847-968-4529, visiting their website at www.improvplayhouse.com, or emailing [email protected]. This initiative represents a unique opportunity for adults to engage with the arts and embrace their creative potential in a supportive community.
