Immigration Officers Discover Four Undocumented Workers in Calgary

Immigration officers discovered four undocumented workers at the construction site for Calgary’s new event centre on March 13, 2024. The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) conducted the inspection after receiving a tip about potential non-compliance with immigration laws.
According to a CBSA spokesperson, officers exercised their designated peace officer authorities during the operation. They conducted identification checks specifically aimed at enforcing the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. The spokesperson indicated that the checks were necessary to identify individuals who may not be in compliance with immigration regulations.
Given the size of the construction site, the CBSA sought assistance from the Calgary Police Service for added security during the inspection. This collaboration underscores the seriousness with which authorities approach potential immigration violations.
The four individuals found without proper documentation are now required to report to the CBSA office within the week. The investigation into their status and the circumstances surrounding their employment is ongoing.
“The CBSA investigates situations where there are possible violations of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and takes appropriate action as mandated by Canadian law,” the spokesperson stated. “Ensuring that those who are inadmissible leave the country is critical to the integrity of Canada’s immigration system.”
The discovery at the construction site reflects ongoing efforts by Canadian authorities to enforce immigration laws and address undocumented work. As similar inspections continue, the CBSA aims to maintain compliance and uphold the standards set within the immigration framework.
In light of this incident, the CBSA encourages individuals and employers to ensure they adhere to immigration regulations, thereby contributing to a lawful employment environment in Canada.
