UPDATE: The Guelph Storm have officially snapped their five-game losing streak, delivering a decisive 6-3 victory against the Owen Sound Attack at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre last night. This impressive win also ended Owen Sound’s five-game winning streak, marking only their third loss of the season.

The Storm took control early, leading 5-1 at one point in the third period, before staving off a late comeback attempt from the Attack. Owen Sound’s assistant coach, Reagan O’Grady, emphasized the team’s resilience despite the setback, stating, “We’re not hitting the panic button by any means here.”

This match was particularly significant for the Storm, who faced pressure after a tough stretch. Owen Sound, now 9-3-0-0 this season, had just completed a demanding four-game schedule, including a Thanksgiving match against North Bay. O’Grady acknowledged the challenge of maintaining focus during such a busy week.

The scoring began with Leo Serlin, who netted a shorthanded goal early in the first period. The Storm continued to dominate, with Carter Stevens and Noah Jenken adding to the scoreline. Pierce Mbuyi, the reigning Rookie of the Year, contributed significantly with his seventh goal, showcasing his ability to adapt as opponents now target him closely.

In an emotional twist, last night’s game also launched the “Toss for a Cause” campaign, where fans threw warm clothing onto the ice, which will be distributed within the community. Mbuyi noted the positive impact, saying, “I felt good about it all” as he watched the items flying toward him.

The Storm’s goalie, Jovanovski, made critical saves throughout the game, stopping 32 of 35 shots, including a spectacular diving save that is likely to be featured in the league’s highlight reel.

Looking ahead, the Owen Sound Attack will face a challenging three-game road trip next week against Windsor, Saginaw, and Flint, starting on October 24 at 7:05 p.m. The Storm, now energized by their victory, aim to build on this momentum as they head into future games.

This thrilling matchup not only highlights the competitive nature of the league but also serves as a reminder of the human connection between players and fans, especially in times of community support.
