UPDATE: The UBC Thunderbirds dominated the Brandon University Bobcats in a decisive 3-0 victory during the Canada West women’s volleyball opener in Vancouver on October 28, 2023. The match scores were 26-18, 25-9, 25-16, marking a tough initiation for the Bobcats who now stand at 0-2 this season.

In a performance that highlighted their prowess, both Georgia Johnson and Steph Miller of the Bobcats tallied five kills each. However, the T-Birds showcased their strength with a total of 34 kills against just 10 errors, overshadowing Brandon’s 21 kills and 23 errors.

Earlier in the weekend, Brandon faced a similar fate on Friday, where they fell to UBC in straight sets as well. Nerissa Dyer and Cassidy Hauta contributed with five kills each, but the Bobcats couldn’t clinch a win, leaving them still searching for their first victory.

In the men’s match that followed, the UBC Thunderbirds also swept the Brandon Bobcats 3-0 with scores of 25-17, 25-17, 25-18. Tom Friesen led the Bobcats with nine kills, while UBC’s Reeve Gingera excelled with 15 kills.

The Bobcats will take a break this week before hosting the Mount Royal Cougars on October 31 and November 1. Additionally, the Brandon basketball teams are set to kick off their regular season at home against the Manitoba Bisons this Friday, followed by a visit to the Winnipeg Wesmen on Sunday.

Stay tuned for more updates as the Bobcats look to bounce back from their opening weekend challenges!
