UPDATE: A devastating drone and missile attack by Russia on Kyiv has resulted in at least two fatalities and multiple injuries, Ukrainian officials confirmed just hours ago. The assault occurred early on September 27, 2023, targeting residential areas and emergency services are currently responding to multiple incidents across the capital.

Emergency responders have rescued 15 individuals, including two children, from a fire that erupted in a 17-story residential building in the Darnytskyi district after drone debris struck the structure. Meanwhile, in the Desnianskyi district, 20 people were evacuated after a gas pipe ignited when debris hit a 10-story building. Reports indicate that the sixth floor of a 16-story residential building in the Dnipro district was severely damaged, leading to the discovery of two deceased individuals.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko provided updates on his Telegram channel, stating that the attack also shattered windows at a medical facility and left debris scattered across multiple sites, including a dormitory. “We are doing everything we can to rescue those trapped and to secure the area,” he noted.

The overnight assault was part of a wider campaign that also struck other Ukrainian cities, including Zaporizhzhia and the port city of Izmail in the southern Odesa region. This escalation comes as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy intensifies efforts to secure advanced weaponry, including long-range Tomahawk missiles, from the United States.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Zelenskyy emphasized the urgency of international pressure, stating, “We need to end this war, and only pressure will lead to peace.” As tensions rise, President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the White House today to discuss ongoing military support for Ukraine. The NATO alliance has been pivotal in coordinating arms deliveries, largely funded by Canada and European nations.

Looking ahead, a significant meeting of the Coalition of the Willing—a coalition of 35 countries supporting Ukraine—is set to take place in London on Friday. This gathering aims to solidify further military assistance and strategic support for Ukraine amid the escalating conflict.

This urgent situation is developing rapidly, and authorities are urging residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities. Stay tuned for more updates as this story unfolds.
