Canadiens Edge Flames in Overtime Thriller, 2-1 Victory
UPDATE: The Montreal Canadiens claimed a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory against the Calgary Flames tonight at the Saddledome. In a tense match marked by intense goaltending and a dramatic finish, Ivan Demidov shone brightly, setting up the game-winning goal.
With Jakub Dobes in net and Joshua Roy making his season debut, the Canadiens faced off against the Flames, who were eager to secure a win at home. The atmosphere was charged, but technical issues with the arena lighting created an unusual backdrop for the game.
Fans and players alike expressed frustration as the lights flickered, prompting the Canadiens’ social media team to joke about needing an electrician. The delay, however, did not dampen the spirits of the players, with head coach Martin St-Louis appearing unfazed on the sidelines.
As the first period unfolded, the Canadiens took advantage of a power play, with Zachary Bolduc scoring, giving the Habs an early lead. However, the team struggled in the second period, allowing the Flames to gain momentum. Despite facing a barrage of shots, Dobes performed admirably, with the Flames leading in shots 37-27 by the end of regulation.
Late in the third period, a turnover from Noah Dobson allowed the Flames to equalize, setting the stage for overtime. Both teams entered the extra period with a sense of urgency, knowing that every moment counted.
In overtime, Demidov exhibited exceptional skill, maneuvering around defenders before delivering a perfect pass to Mike Matheson, who netted the decisive goal on the Canadiens’ only shot of the extra session. The final score stood at 2-1, sealing a hard-fought victory for the Habs.
The Canadiens will face the Edmonton Oilers tomorrow night in their next matchup. As they travel, questions loom about the availability of Kirby Dach, who has been sidelined with an injury, and whether he will return to the lineup.
Fans are buzzing over the win, with many expressing their excitement on social media platforms. The Canadiens continue to prove their resilience, and tonight’s victory is a testament to their determination.
Stay tuned for updates as the Canadiens prepare for their next challenge in Edmonton.
