Bourdages Family Expands with Birth of 24th Child in 1925

On October 23, 1925, the Bourdages family from Sault Ste. Marie celebrated a milestone with the birth of their 24th child. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bourdages reside at 535 Northland Road, where they have built a large family, with fifteen of their children still living at home. Tragically, a son named Joseph lost his life during the Great War, which underscores the family’s deep connections to both their community and history.
The Bourdages family has gained recognition not only for their size but also for their active participation in local events. Two years prior, Frank Bourdages earned a prize for having the largest family during the Community Night parade, winning 20 pounds of butter. This event reflects the community spirit and familial pride that continues to be a hallmark of Sault Ste. Marie.
Local Developments in Sault Ste. Marie
In addition to the Bourdages family’s joyful news, Sault Ste. Marie is experiencing various developments. The Bellevue-Searchmont road is nearing completion, providing a vital connection for the community. Currently, the road has only been traversed by horse-drawn vehicles, as no cars have yet made the journey from Searchmont to Sault Ste. Marie.
On the cultural front, local events are thriving. Clean North is organizing its second annual computer recycling day, aiming to divert over 10 tonnes of electronic waste from the city dump. This initiative highlights the community’s commitment to environmental responsibility, encouraging residents to dispose of outdated technology in an eco-friendly manner.
Remembering Local Heroes
Sault Ste. Marie also reflects on its connections to local heroes. On this day in 1915, Bugler Jack Shadforth of the 37th Battalion Niagara was visiting his mother in the community, a reminder of the sacrifices made by local individuals during times of conflict. Such stories resonate deeply within the community, forming a rich tapestry of local history that continues to influence the present.
As Sault Ste. Marie embraces its past while looking towards the future, the birth of the Bourdages’ 24th child serves as a symbol of family and resilience, characteristics that define this vibrant community.
