Two Arrested in Goodfare for Producing Fentanyl, Carfentanil
URGENT UPDATE: Two residents of Goodfare have been arrested on October 21 and charged with producing fentanyl and carfentanil, following a five-month investigation by the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT). This alarming development highlights ongoing efforts to combat the escalating drug crisis in the region.
Authorities confirmed that the arrests of Codi McCreesh, 41, and Jamie Lee Ozechowski, 41, come as part of a coordinated operation that targeted serious drug-related crimes. They are set to appear in court on October 27 to face a series of charges, including drug production, possession for trafficking, and numerous firearms offenses.
The ALERT team, comprised of over 400 officers, is dedicated to tackling organized crime, gang violence, and drug trafficking. Their proactive investigation began in May when community members raised concerns about suspicious activities. This prompted ALERT to take decisive action and launch an investigation that culminated in the recent arrests.
During a search of a rural home in the County of Grande Prairie, approximately 60 kilometers northwest of Grande Prairie, police seized a staggering array of illegal items. The haul included drugs, firearms, tobacco, and approximately $15,000 in stolen property, underscoring the serious nature of the operation.
Insp. Brad Lundeen of ALERT stated, “Taking fentanyl off the street remains a high priority for our team. Now we are asking for the public’s information to help put these drug dealers in custody.” This plea emphasizes the critical role that community vigilance plays in combating drug trafficking.
Both suspects remain in custody as they await their court appearance, a situation that has heightened concerns in the local community. ALERT has been instrumental in seizing over $989 million worth of drugs and removing more than 2,000 firearms from the streets since its inception in 2006.
Members of the public are encouraged to report any suspected drug or gang activity to local police or anonymously contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). ALERT relies heavily on tips from the community to effectively address and dismantle organized crime operations.
As this story develops, residents in Goodfare and surrounding areas are urged to stay informed and vigilant. The fight against drug-related crime is ongoing, and the community’s engagement is crucial in ensuring safety and stability.
This situation serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for continued vigilance against the drug crisis affecting many communities across Alberta and beyond. Further updates will follow as more information becomes available.
