Urgent Update: 2025 IHSA Football Playoff Pairings Announced
UPDATE: The 2025 IHSA football playoff pairings have just been announced, igniting excitement across the Suburban Life area. Over 32 teams are set to compete in this year’s playoffs, with several matchups already stirring anticipation among fans and players alike.
First up, the No. 20 York Dukes (6-3) are gearing up to face the No. 13 Lyons Lions (7-2) in a highly anticipated clash. The game time is still TBD, but York aims to capitalize on its playoff experience after reaching the semifinals for three consecutive years. The Dukes are led by Henry Duda, a standout senior running back who amassed 256 yards in last week’s loss to Lyons, showcasing his ability to dominate on the field.
Meanwhile, the Lions are riding a wave of momentum. After a thrilling 34-26 victory over York last week, they look to extend their playoff run under head coach Jon Beutjer. EJ Kuhlman made headlines with a record-breaking 246 rushing yards in that match, proving to be a key player for Lyons.
In another exciting matchup, the No. 30 Downers Grove South Mustangs (5-4) will face the formidable No. 3 Maine South Hawks (8-1). The Mustangs are determined to continue their playoff streak, having rebounded from an 0-3 start to secure their spot with four consecutive wins. Senior running back Joseph Vieyra stands out as a prolific rusher, while Maine South, a five-time state champion, looks to leverage the skills of junior quarterback Jameson Purcell, who has been a top performer all season.
The No. 19 Hinsdale Central Red Devils (6-3) are also set to take on No. 14 South Elgin Storm (7-2). This marks Hinsdale’s return to the playoffs after a two-year hiatus. Senior QB Riley Contreras will be pivotal as the Red Devils aim to harness their past playoff experience against a South Elgin team that has gained momentum with a seven-game winning streak.
In Class 7A, the No. 29 West Chicago Wildcats (5-4) will challenge the No. 4 Glenbard East Rams (8-1). West Chicago is making history with back-to-back playoff appearances for the first time. The Rams, however, are keen on maintaining their strong performance after winning the Upstate Eight East title last week with a dramatic 45-43 victory over Riverside-Brookfield.
The No. 31 Willowbrook Warriors (5-4) will be up against the No. 2 Glenbard West Hilltoppers (8-1). Willowbrook, despite a tough season, is looking to turn their fortunes in the playoffs, while Glenbard West, the West Suburban Silver champions, are on a mission to reclaim their playoff glory after missing out last season.
The playoff excitement continues with matchups like No. 18 Prospect (7-2) versus No. 15 Downers Grove North (7-2), and No. 16 Hononegah (5-4) taking on No. 1 Nazareth (8-1). As teams prepare for their playoff journeys, the stakes have never been higher, and fans are eager to see who will emerge victorious.
What’s next? As teams finalize their preparations, fans can expect an electrifying atmosphere as playoff games begin. Stay tuned for updates on game times and results as the 2025 IHSA playoffs unfold, bringing thrilling football action to communities across the region.
