Urgent Fuel Spill After Collision in Harbourfront; Roads Reopen
UPDATE: A serious two-vehicle collision in Harbourfront has resulted in a significant fuel spill, leading to hours of road closures. The incident, involving a tractor-trailer and an SUV, occurred near York Street and Queens Quay West around 9 p.m. on Saturday evening.
Emergency services, including Toronto Police and Toronto Fire, swiftly responded to the scene. A man in his 50s, the driver of one of the vehicles, was transported to hospital with minor injuries. Authorities confirmed his condition is stable.
The collision compromised one of the tractor-trailer’s fuel side tanks, causing a hazardous spill. In response, the Ministry of Environment and Toronto Water were alerted to perform inspections of the affected area. As cleanup efforts progressed, Toronto Fire managed the scene until it was handed over to police.
Road closures along Queens Quay West between Lower Simcoe Street and York Street disrupted traffic for several hours. However, the roads were successfully reopened by 9:40 a.m. on Sunday, minimizing the impact on the morning commute.
