London Knights Shut Out Sarnia Sting 3-0 in Dominant Win
UPDATE: The London Knights delivered a commanding performance, blanking the Sarnia Sting 3-0 on October 26, 2023, marking a significant moment for goaltender Seb Gatto as he secured his first Ontario Hockey League shutout. This victory cements the Knights’ strong momentum, extending their unbeaten streak to 7-0-1 over the last eight games.
Gatto showcased his skills with 21 saves, including several high-pressure stops, as the Knights successfully navigated back-to-back wins against the Sting. Earlier in the month, Gatto contributed to a thrilling 5-4 overtime victory on October 11.
The Knights struck early, with Jaxon Cover setting the tone just 40 seconds into the game. Cover raced past the Sarnia defense, delivering a pass that deflected off Logan Hawery‘s skate into the net; however, the goal was reviewed and ruled a no-goal. The Knights finally lit the lamp at 17:32 of the first period with Jared Woolley‘s fifth goal of the season, giving London a 1-0 lead.
Rene Van Bommel continued to shine against the Sting, scoring at the 13:53 mark of the second period on a wrap-around, doubling London’s lead to 2-0. Van Bommel has been a thorn in Sarnia’s side, averaging a point per game against them over the past two seasons.
As the game progressed into the third period, the Knights maintained their defensive prowess. Captain Sam O’Reilly capped off the scoring by blocking a shot and racing down the ice to seal the deal with an empty-net goal.
The Knights outshot the Sting 26-21, but both teams struggled on the power play, finishing 0-for-3.
Meanwhile, former Knights players Patrick Kane and John Tavares are on the brink of a significant milestone in their NHL careers, each nearing 500 career goals. Tavares has 499 after an overtime winner against the Buffalo Sabres on October 25, while Kane sits at 494.
Looking ahead, the Knights will continue their road trip with a matchup against the Peterborough Petes on October 30 at 7 p.m.. Fans can catch the action on 980 CFPL, starting at 6:30 p.m., and streaming via the iHeart Radio and Radioplayer Canada apps.
This latest victory reinforces the Knights’ position as a formidable force in the OHL and keeps fans eagerly anticipating their next game.
