Utah Mammoth Secure Seventh Straight Win, Top Winnipeg 3-2
UPDATE: The Utah Mammoth are making headlines as they record their seventh consecutive victory, defeating the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 in a thrilling matchup on October 26, 2025. Dylan Guenther scored the decisive goal with less than six minutes remaining, solidifying the Mammoth’s status as the hottest team in the West.
Guenther expressed his excitement, stating, “Winning’s fun and we’re playing a lot of games, too. We’ll just continue to keep it rolling and enjoy this one a bit and get ready for the next one.” This victory marks Guenther’s fourth game-winning goal of the season and brings his total to seven points in the last five games.
The Mammoth’s success is significantly attributed to the stellar performance of their goaltender, Vitek Vanecek, who made 28 saves against the Jets, frustrating the crowd of 13,678 fans at the Canada Life Centre.
“That’s the biggest part of your team, really, is your goaltending,” Guenther emphasized, highlighting the crucial role Vanecek plays in their current winning streak. Vanecek himself noted the importance of maintaining composure during the game’s tense moments, stating, “We handled it really well and then they didn’t get anything. So, great win.”
Utah coach Andre Tourigny praised both Vanecek’s key saves and the energy brought by the fourth line. “Good performance by V (Vanecek),” Tourigny said. He added, “I think we dig deep… a level of maturity… When adversity hits, the guys stay composed.” The Mammoth now hold an impressive 8-2 record this season, reflecting a significant turnaround from last year’s struggles.
Guenther noted the team’s improved communication and maturity, saying, “We’ve talked about it… but we’re living it now. It’s a good learning experience and we just keep getting better.” The Mammoth are not letting early success go to their heads, with Guenther stating, “Honestly, we’re not getting too high. I think you can sense it in the room.”
The Mammoth’s victory was also marked by goals from Michael Carcone and Mikhail Sergachev, showcasing their growing depth and strength as a team. This performance stands in stark contrast to their previous season, where they failed to reach the NHL playoffs after moving from Phoenix to Utah.
Dylan DeMelo, a defenseman for the Jets, acknowledged the Mammoth’s development, stating, “They have great depth up and down that lineup. It’s a fantastic team, there’s no doubt about it and they’re off to a hot start.”
Mark Scheifele scored Winnipeg’s lone goal, while Josh Morrissey made history by assisting on both goals, reaching 300 assists in his NHL career. “Yeah, it’s cool, for sure,” Morrissey remarked.
This victory reinforces the Mammoth’s status as a formidable contender in the league, and fans can expect more thrilling performances as they aim to extend their winning streak in upcoming matches.
