Building Memories: Pine Creek Homes Crafts Dream Cabins
In the heart of Winnipeg, the legacy of family-run Pine Creek Homes continues as the company specializes in crafting custom cabins and homes. Founded in 1978 by **Jasper Veenstra**, the business has evolved into a respected name in homebuilding, with **Glen** and **Josh Veenstra** now at the helm. Their personal connection to the lakeside lifestyle drives their passion for creating spaces where families can make lasting memories.
**Glen Veenstra**, 44, recalls his childhood visits to his grandparents’ cabin at **White Lake** in the **Whiteshell Provincial Park**. Winter visits often meant enduring the cold until the cabin warmed up with a roaring fire. “You literally had to wear your snow pants and winter boots in the cottage until at least one o’clock in the afternoon just to be able to get the fire going enough to take the edge off,” he shared. These early experiences fueled his desire to provide others with similar opportunities to connect with nature and family.
Pine Creek Homes has been building custom homes and cabins for over 40 years, with a focus on quality craftsmanship. The company, which employs 17 people, undertakes about ten projects a year, ensuring that each build receives the attention it deserves. Homes range in price from **$700,000** to **$5 million**, reflecting a commitment to excellence and attention to detail.
The design process typically spans **nine months**, and construction can take anywhere from nine months to a year and a half. Glen and Josh are actively involved in every project, fostering strong relationships with clients throughout the building process. “There are hundreds of decisions that need to be made,” Glen explained. “We have an in-house design team to help guide our clients.”
Pine Creek Homes is not only about building structures; it is about creating environments where families can thrive. Glen believes that having a cabin allows children to experience freedoms not typically found in urban settings. “For kids to be able to grow up having those experiences out in the woods, on the water, on the dock, making friends … it’s really impactful,” he said.
A notable project includes a **1,200-square-foot** cabin built for **Hank and Susan Sprong** near **Dogtooth Lake** in **Kenora, Ontario**. The couple, who envisioned retiring at the lake, praised Pine Creek for their professionalism and respect during the building process. “It was our goal, it was our dream, that’s what we wanted to do,” Hank commented. The Sprongs expressed their satisfaction with the cabin, emphasizing how it fulfilled their long-held aspirations.
The company’s commitment to continuous improvement is reflected in its core values. Glen emphasizes that each project should be a better experience than the last. “If a client hires us a second time, the customer experience and end product should be better than it was the first time around,” he stated. This philosophy drives the team to invest in their employees and enhance overall service quality.
Looking ahead, Pine Creek Homes plans to expand its workforce by adding six new employees next year. Glen finds joy in seeing his team thrive and believes that a company is only as good as its people. “I just like seeing other people succeed,” he said, highlighting the importance of fostering a supportive work environment.
As **Pine Creek Homes** approaches its 50th anniversary, the Veenstra brothers remain dedicated to crafting bespoke homes that are more than just buildings; they are the foundations for cherished family memories.
