UPDATE: In a thrilling overtime showdown, the Prince Albert Mintos staged an incredible comeback to defeat the Tisdale Trojans 5-4 at the Art Hauser Centre on July 15, 2023. Just 19 seconds into overtime, forward Cruz Stacey clinched the victory with a stunning shot, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.

The Mintos faced a daunting challenge as they trailed 3-1 early in the second period. However, they rallied back, showcasing resilience and determination. Mintos coach Dion Antisin praised his team’s “no-quit mentality,” emphasizing their ability to stay focused and keep pushing forward.

“We just told the guys, ‘don’t quit. You’re playing well enough to win,’” Antisin stated, highlighting their strategy of putting pressure on the Trojans’ defense. The Mintos’ quick response to a Tisdale goal was crucial, with Xander Pritchard scoring just 14 seconds after Preston Hoppe put the Trojans ahead.

The action intensified when Jakob Schmidt tied the game with a powerful wrist shot, only to see Jacob Tait of Tisdale score his third goal of the night, putting them back in front at 4-3. Yet, the Mintos were unyielding, with Liam Myhre netting a power play goal to equalize again before the end of the second period.

As the third period unfolded, both teams tightened their defenses, resulting in a scoreless frame. Antisin noted, “Everything tightened up defensively… which is not a bad thing to teach these guys,” as they prepared for the next level of play.

With the win, the Mintos leapfrog the Yorkton Maulers for fifth place in the SMAAAHL standings. The team is set to hit the ice again on Saturday against the Estevan Bears, with puck drop scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

This thrilling comeback not only highlights the Mintos’ fighting spirit but also reinforces their playoff ambitions. Fans and players alike are buzzing with excitement as they look forward to their next challenge.
