Urgent Call to Donate Pumpkins for Animals at Alice Sanctuary

URGENT UPDATE: A unique opportunity has emerged for those looking to dispose of their gently-used pumpkins after Halloween. Miriam Roberts is rallying the community to donate pumpkins to the Alice Sanctuary, a vital vegan farm animal sanctuary just outside Calgary, where over 200 rescued and abandoned farm animals reside.

Roberts, who initiated this compassionate effort five years ago, shared, “After Halloween, I looked around and saw all these pumpkins, and I thought this is a lot of food.” Her initiative aims to reduce food waste while providing these animals with a much-appreciated treat. “We collect thousands of pumpkins and bring them out there,” she explained. “The owner of the Alice Sanctuary is absolutely amazing.”

The pumpkins serve as a delightful snack for the animals, likened to “candy,” which also helps lower the sanctuary’s food costs. Roberts continues, “It’s a nice, tasty treat, and it helps a little bit with the food costs.”

IMPORTANT DETAILS: Anyone wishing to donate can drop off their pumpkins at the Maria Montessori Education Center located at 2605 13 Ave. N.W. until noon on November 5, 2023. However, it is crucial that the pumpkins are not painted, waxy, or contain candles.
