Rare Chinese Calligraphy Album Sells for Over $1 Million in Toronto
A remarkable auction in Toronto has seen a centuries-old Chinese calligraphy album sell for over $1 million, significantly exceeding its estimated value. The album, which once belonged to a Chinese emperor’s royal collection, was discovered in a Canadian basement and auctioned by the Heffel Fine Art Auction House on March 15, 2024.
The calligraphy album, described as “extremely rare,” features works by Zhao Mengfu, a renowned calligrapher and painter from the Yuan Dynasty. This dynasty, notable as the only Mongol-led imperial dynasty in China, lasted from 1271 to 1368 and is known for its significant cultural contributions.
