Vancouver Baker Wins $510,000 on Netflix’s ‘Is It Cake? Halloween’
BREAKING: Vancouver baker Andrea Ortiz Fuentes has just been crowned the winner of the highly-anticipated Netflix special, ‘Is It Cake? Halloween’, taking home an astonishing $510,000 cash prize. This thrilling victory was confirmed earlier today, sending shockwaves through the baking community and inspiring aspiring chefs worldwide.
In a nail-biting finale that aired on October 31, 2023, Ortiz Fuentes wowed celebrity judges, including actor Harvey Guillén, comedian Kevin Nealon, and actress Gillian Jacobs, with her hyper-realistic cake creations. Her journey to the top began when she dazzled the judges in a previous episode by crafting a stunning replica of a stack of plastic gummy bears, leaving the panel convinced they were the real thing.
“It was challenging,” Ortiz Fuentes admitted, reflecting on the difficulty of recreating rigid objects compared to organic subjects. “I was very nervous. I was like, ‘I don’t know what I am doing here, but let’s do our best’,” she added. The intense competition saw all bakers fool the judges with their creations, but Ortiz Fuentes triumphed when it came down to a crucial taste test.
The grand finale presented an even bigger challenge as she was tasked with creating a large grim reaper headstone. “To bake the second cake, that was huge. It was humongous,” she remarked. The intricate detailing of the headstone posed difficulties, but with the support of her baking partner, Ortiz Fuentes executed a cake so convincing that the judges were left stunned once again.
Upon winning, Ortiz Fuentes expressed her disbelief: “When they said my name, I was like, ‘What?!’ … What the heck?” Her victory marks a significant milestone, showcasing her talent as a professional baker who moved to Vancouver from Chile in 2020 to pursue her dreams.
“This October has been the craziest month of my life,” she shared, highlighting the emotional impact of her achievement. Ortiz Fuentes aims to expand her baking business and continue her participation in future shows, serving as a beacon of inspiration for others pursuing careers in baking. “My message is for everyone to just follow your dreams and your passions because it really pays off,” she urged.
As news of her victory spreads, Ortiz Fuentes is set to become a household name, motivating many to chase their culinary dreams. Stay tuned for more updates on her journey and upcoming projects as she capitalizes on this incredible moment.
