New Brunswick Boosts Healthcare Workforce with 400 Nurses, 80 Physicians

New Brunswick has significantly bolstered its healthcare workforce over the past year, hiring more than 400 nurses and 80 permanent physicians. The province’s regional health authorities, namely Horizon Health Network and Vitalité Health Network, have reported promising trends in recruitment and retention since October 2024. These efforts have resulted in net increases of 84 physicians, 214 registered nurses, and 201 licensed practical nurses.

John Dornan, the province’s Health Minister, emphasized the importance of healthcare workers, stating, “Our health-care workers are the backbone of the health-care system, and we are tackling shortages, supporting recruitment and retention efforts, and creating workplaces where people feel respected, valued and safe.” His comments came in a news release outlining the ongoing initiatives to strengthen New Brunswick’s healthcare system.
