Canadian Ship Stuck in Detroit River; Recovery Efforts Set for Saturday
URGENT UPDATE: A Canadian cargo ship, the Rt. Hon. John Paul Martin, is currently stuck in the Detroit River between downtown Detroit and downtown Windsor. The vessel, measuring 225 metres, was en route to Quebec City when it encountered trouble.
The U.S. Coast Guard has confirmed that personnel are closely monitoring the situation, describing the incident as a “soft grounding.” Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries or pollution, and marine transportation remains unaffected for now.
Tug boats are on-site, ready to assist, but recovery efforts will be delayed. Due to poor visibility at night, the Coast Guard has stated that plans to re-float the vessel will be assessed on Saturday morning.
This developing situation is critical as it impacts maritime traffic in a key shipping corridor. Authorities are urging local residents and stakeholders to stay tuned for updates as conditions change.
As recovery efforts are imminent, the community is left wondering how this incident will affect shipping schedules and local businesses that depend on maritime transport. Stay with us for the latest updates as this story unfolds.
