Southern Ontario Faces First Snowfall of the Season Today
URGENT UPDATE: Southern Ontario is bracing for its first snowfall of the season today as Environment Canada issues special weather statements for multiple regions. A low-pressure system is sweeping through the area, with snowfall expected to begin this morning and continue into the evening.
Forecasts indicate that Toronto may receive between 2 to 10 centimetres of snow, while Ottawa could see a heavier accumulation of 5 to 15 centimetres. Motorists are advised to prepare for hazardous driving conditions and adjust their travel plans accordingly. Authorities recommend installing winter tires to ensure safety on slippery roads.
As temperatures are set to plummet to -5 C in Toronto, the city has opened additional shelter spaces for individuals experiencing homelessness, highlighting the human impact of the upcoming weather shift. This proactive measure aims to protect vulnerable populations as the cold front moves in.
In addition, southern and central Quebec are also expected to see their first snowfall, with Montreal anticipating nearly 10 centimetres of snow through Monday.
The urgency of these conditions emphasizes the importance of being prepared for winter weather. Residents across southern Ontario and Quebec are urged to stay informed about developing weather conditions and heed any advisories from local authorities.
Stay tuned for further updates as this situation unfolds.
