Australia Leads World in AI Usage with Over 5 Million Visits Per Person
A recent study reveals that Australia ranks as the country most engaged with artificial intelligence (AI), recording over 5 million visits to AI platforms per capita. This figure highlights Australia’s significant reliance on AI technologies, which have seen a remarkable increase in usage globally. According to research conducted by the company Eskimoz, the patterns of AI engagement vary considerably across nations, with Europeans showing the highest overall reliance on AI.
The Eskimoz study evaluated three key factors to determine national trends in AI usage: total visits to AI-themed websites and applications, traffic per 100,000 residents, and the rate of visits to AI tools. By focusing on traffic per capita, the analysis ensured that larger countries did not skew the results. The findings indicate a dramatic rise in global AI usage, with a 20% increase reported for 2025.
Australia’s Dominance in AI Engagement
Australians engage with AI a staggering 1.35 billion times annually, with nearly 2% of that traffic directed towards specific AI tools, such as chatbots and content generators. Following Australia, the Netherlands ranks second, with just under 5 million visits per capita, leading to a total of 917 million interactions with AI services. The share of AI tools in the Netherlands accounts for approximately 1.14% of total usage.
Canada claims the third position, with a per capita rate of 4.8 million AI interactions. In total, Canadians utilize AI around 2 billion times each year. Notably, a greater proportion of these interactions involves specialized AI tools, which make up 2.4% of all AI queries, surpassing Australia’s focus on general usage.
The United States follows closely in fourth place, boasting the highest overall traffic to AI platforms. In just one year, AI usage in the U.S. reached 16.4 billion times, which is 14 billion more than any other country. AI tools account for 20% of total traffic, the highest percentage among the countries surveyed. Despite its large population, the U.S. maintains a strong interest in AI per capita, with 4.7 million interactions.
Europe’s AI Landscape
The United Kingdom rounds out the top five countries, recording an AI usage rate of 3.5 million per capita, leading to a total of 2.4 billion queries annually. This positions the UK among the nations with the most intense engagement with AI, with 3% of visits attributed to AI tools.
Germany, in sixth place, logs a significant 2.6 billion AI uses, indicating strong reliance on AI technologies. AI tools account for 3.18% of all visits, demonstrating a higher engagement level than in Australia. Spain ranks seventh, with AI activity closely mirroring Australia’s figures, amounting to 1.4 billion interactions, while specialized AI tools make up 1.77% of total usage.
France, coming in eighth, achieves a rate of 2.9 million AI interactions per capita, totaling 1.9 billion visits to AI platforms. The French exhibit a greater reliance on AI tools, which account for 2.4% of all usage. Peru stands ninth, as the only South American country in the ranking, with an AI usage rate of 2.6 million, totaling 926 million visits.
Lastly, Malaysia completes the list in tenth place, with an AI interaction rate of 2.4 million per capita, resulting in a total of 888 million visits to AI platforms.
The findings from this study underscore the growing significance of artificial intelligence across the globe, reflecting a trend that is likely to continue as technology evolves and integrates further into daily life.
