Clear Blue Technologies Secures $1.5M Order from iSat Africa
Clear Blue Technologies International Inc. has been awarded a repeat order valued at CA$1.5 million from its partner, iSat Africa. This order involves Clear Blue’s Micro product and marks a significant step in expanding iSat’s telecommunications network across several African nations, including the Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan, Liberia, and Zambia. The shipment of these products is scheduled to occur over the next two quarters, with opportunities for additional contracts anticipated in 2026 and beyond.
This collaboration is pivotal as iSat Africa launches its new Energy-as-a-Service offering, which aims to enhance telecom infrastructure across the continent. Since acquiring its first Clear Blue system in 2020, iSat has solidified its partnership with Clear Blue through a Memorandum of Understanding established in 2022 and a series of ongoing purchase orders.
Rakesh Kukreja, CEO of iSat Africa, emphasized the importance of Clear Blue’s technology, stating, “Using Clear Blue’s Smart Power technology, along with their business and service teams, has been instrumental in supporting our telecom growth and expansion across Africa. We are now increasing our investments and roll out targets going forward.”
In response, Miriam Tuerk, CEO and Co-Founder of Clear Blue, praised iSat’s innovative approach. “iSat has been successful in developing a Network-as-a-Service model that is scalable and profitable,” Tuerk remarked. She highlighted the focus on countries where solar energy can play a critical role, providing a solid foundation for executing growth plans.
According to a report by McKinsey, Sub-Saharan Africa remains one of the most underserved regions globally in terms of telecommunications. The mobile penetration rate stood at approximately 27% in 2023, significantly lower than the global average of 69%. This gap is exacerbated by a rapidly growing population, with over 60% of individuals under the age of 25, leading to an increasing demand for internet and cellular services, as noted by the World Economic Forum.
The reliance on diesel generators for energy in telecommunications has prompted a shift towards solar-powered infrastructure, an area where Clear Blue excels. Solar solutions offer a more reliable and cost-effective alternative, addressing the pressing connectivity needs of the continent.
Clear Blue Technologies specializes in Smart Off-GridTM power solutions for critical infrastructure, including telecommunications and the Internet of Things (IoT). The company’s technology not only promotes cost savings but also enables predictive maintenance and reliable power delivery in remote or challenging environments.
iSat Africa, on the other hand, is transforming the connectivity landscape in Africa with its integrated communication services. By offering Network as a Service, Backhaul as a Service, and Energy as a Service, iSat is bridging the digital divide. Its model leverages advanced technology and a flexible financial framework, allowing for seamless deployment of networks across urban and rural areas without requiring upfront investments. This approach supports technologies such as LTE, 5G, and high-speed satellite services, enhancing communication even in underserved regions.
As Clear Blue and iSat Africa continue to collaborate, the future looks promising for expanding telecommunications access across the continent. The ongoing investment and innovative solutions are set to play a crucial role in shaping a more connected and sustainable Africa.
