Disney Unveils 2025 Christmas Advert Featuring Taika Waititi’s Doodle
Disney has released its much-anticipated Christmas advert for 2025, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Taika Waititi. This charming commercial showcases the creativity and festive spirit that Disney is known for, drawing on the nostalgia associated with its extensive catalog of beloved characters.
The advert follows a simple yet engaging premise. A young child sends a heartfelt letter to Santa, adorned with a delightful doodle in the corner. To the child’s surprise, the doodle magically comes to life the following day, becoming a new companion. Their adventures together span various seasons, including Halloween and summer days by the pool, all underscored by the familiar tune of “You’ve Got A Friend in Me” from Disney-Pixar’s Toy Story. This nostalgic choice of music is designed to evoke emotions, particularly among adults who grew up with the franchise.
As the story unfolds, the mood shifts when the doodle, referred to as “Mr Doodle,” begins to feel isolated. Lacking a mouth, Mr Doodle cannot join in the festive caroling, which leaves him feeling dejected. Clutching a plush version of Stitch, another iconic Disney character, he gazes longingly into a mirror, wishing for the ability to sing along.
Fortunately, the narrative takes a turn when Mr Doodle’s friend, inspired by the classic Toy Story character Mr Potato Head, wishes for a mouth as a Christmas gift. In a whimsical twist, Mr Doodle’s mouth materializes, granting him the ability to speak. While the new voice adds a layer of personality, it also introduces a comedic element, as his chatter may soon become overwhelming for those around him.
The advert concludes on a cheerful note, with the child and Mr Doodle sharing a moment of happiness, reinforcing the theme of imaginative play and the joys of childhood. As is typical with Disney’s holiday marketing, the message celebrates the magic of imagination, while also cleverly promoting merchandise that may inspire many children to request their own Mr Doodle this Christmas.
Disney continues to solidify its reputation as a leader in festive advertising, effectively blending heartwarming storytelling with its iconic characters. This latest effort not only captivates the audience’s attention but also serves as a reminder of the enduring impact of toys and creativity in children’s lives. As families prepare for the holiday season, Disney’s latest offering is sure to spark joy and nostalgia for audiences of all ages.
