Halifax Water Eases Restrictions for 122,000 Customers NOW
UPDATE: Halifax Water has just announced a significant easing of water restrictions for approximately 122,000 customers in the Dartmouth area. Effective immediately, mandatory conservation measures have been shifted to voluntary status following recent heavy rainfall that replenished local water supplies.
In a statement released on Wednesday afternoon, Halifax Water confirmed that water levels at Lake Major have increased by an impressive 70 centimeters due to the recent precipitation. This surge in water levels is a positive development, allowing the utility to cautiously lift restrictions imposed since September 10.
Officials emphasized the importance of continued conservation efforts, stating, “While we are optimistic about the recovery of our water sources, we urge all customers to follow voluntary water conservation measures until further notice.” The utility is actively monitoring the situation as the winter months approach, hoping for further precipitation to fully recharge the lakes across the region.
Starting Thursday, residents can expect the resumption of hydrant flow testing and the reopening of bulk water fill stations at Lake Major. However, customers serviced by Pockwock Lake, including those in Halifax, Bedford, and Hammonds Plains, will remain under voluntary water restrictions.
This shift in policy comes as a relief for many families and businesses in the affected communities, who have been vigilant in their water use. The easing of restrictions allows for greater flexibility in daily activities and highlights the immediate impact of nature on local resources.
As the situation develops, Halifax Water will continue to provide updates to ensure the community remains informed and prepared. Residents are encouraged to stay tuned for further announcements regarding water conservation measures.
For now, the community can breathe a sigh of relief as the water supply shows signs of recovery. Stay connected for the latest updates on this developing story.
