Urgent Drug Bust in Medicine Hat: $67,000 in Drugs Seized
URGENT UPDATE: A major drug bust has just been confirmed in Medicine Hat, Alberta, where authorities seized an astounding $67,000 worth of illegal drugs. The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) executed searches at two homes on November 7, 2025, leading to the arrest of two suspects.
The operation revealed a harrowing reality as officers confiscated not only the drugs but also $10,675 in cash and three firearms. Among the weapons, two were loaded sawed-off shotguns, classified as prohibited firearms, while the third was confirmed to be stolen.
ALERT Staff Sgt. Ryan Thorburn emphasized the investigation’s critical nature, stating, “This investigation aimed to cut off a drug supply line that was preying upon vulnerable and unhoused individuals. ALERT will aggressively target these drug supply lines and repeat offenders in order to keep our downtown safe.”
The suspects, Wendy Scott, 41, and Kerry Simms, 43, are facing serious charges. Scott is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and several breach violations, and she remains in custody. Simms faces multiple charges, including possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of the proceeds of crime, and firearms offenses, also remaining in custody.
This bust highlights the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in communities, especially those impacting the most vulnerable populations.
