The eagerly anticipated redesign of the Google TV homescreen for 2025 is now expanding its reach to more users, according to a report by 9To5Google. While the update was initially announced in September, its rollout remains limited, indicating a phased approach to implementation.

The updated homescreen features a streamlined navigation system, with a reduced number of tabs in the top bar now displaying only ‘Home,’ ‘Live,’ and ‘Apps.’ Users will also find icons for search, screensaver, and quick settings prominently positioned. Additionally, the right edge of the screen now displays the current time alongside Google TV branding.

New Features and Organization

Under the profile menu, the redesign introduces sections for the watchlist, library, services, and content preferences. Both the Watchlist and Library have undergone a visual overhaul, showcasing a large header and a horizontally scrolling content list. However, the ‘Content preferences’ and ‘Your services’ sections remain unchanged, as does the Search tab.

The Settings page continues to offer options for screensaver adjustments, Ethernet settings, Google Home integration, accessibility features, audio output, and Bluetooth connectivity. A section for Developer Options is also available, provided it is enabled. As of now, not all users have access to the new homescreen design, suggesting that Google is rolling out the update gradually.

Independent Rollout from Gemini Update

Notably, the Google TV homescreen redesign is being implemented independently of the Gemini update, which was announced earlier this week. Both streaming devices are reportedly still utilizing the Assistant feature, despite the interface changes.

As Google continues to enhance the user experience on its platforms, this redesign reflects the company’s commitment to adapting its services in line with consumer feedback. The gradual rollout allows for user testing and adjustments, ensuring a smoother experience for all users in the future.
