Young American Women Seek to Leave U.S., Favor Canada as Destination
A significant shift in sentiment has emerged among younger American women, with a record 40 percent indicating a desire to leave the United States. This finding stems from a recent poll conducted by Gallup, which reveals that Canada’s allure is particularly strong for this demographic. The survey highlights a striking increase in the willingness to relocate, compared to just 10 percent of women aged 15 to 44 expressing a similar desire in 2014.
The Gallup poll surveyed approximately 1,000 individuals aged 15 and older via telephone between June 14 and July 16, 2025. The results show that while 40 percent of younger women are considering permanent relocation, overall, around 20 percent of Americans expressed a desire to leave the country. The margin of error for the poll is plus or minus 4.4 percent, with a confidence level of 19 times out of 20.
This trend raises questions about the factors driving young women to contemplate such a significant life change. Experts suggest that political, social, and economic conditions may play a role in their decision to seek opportunities abroad. The increasing frequency of discussions surrounding issues such as reproductive rights and social freedoms in the United States could be influencing these sentiments.
While the desire to leave is evident, Gallup emphasizes that expressing an intention to relocate does not equate to immediate action. Many respondents may simply be reflecting their frustrations with the current state of affairs rather than actively planning a move.
As the data unfolds, it remains to be seen how these sentiments will manifest in actual migration patterns. The implications of this trend could have a lasting impact on demographic shifts, particularly as Canada continues to be viewed as a favorable destination for those seeking a new start.
This report highlights an evolving narrative among younger American women and their perceptions of life outside the United States. As these women navigate their futures, the findings from Gallup provide a snapshot of a growing desire for change and the search for better opportunities beyond national borders.
