Kitchener Rangers Shut Out by Greyhounds in 4-0 Defeat
UPDATE: The Kitchener Rangers faced a disappointing 4-0 shutout loss against the Sault St. Marie Greyhounds at home on Friday night, marking their second consecutive defeat. This urgent defeat leaves the Rangers eager to rebound as they prepare for a critical matchup against the Guelph Storm tomorrow.
After a scoreless first period, the Greyhounds surged with three quick goals, two of which came from standout defenceman Chase Reid. Despite several opportunities in the third period, the Rangers could not find the back of the net, hitting both the posts and the crossbar in a frustrating display. The Greyhounds sealed the victory with an empty-net goal from forward Marco Mignosa late in the game.
All three stars of the night were awarded to Greyhound players: Reid (two goals, one assist), goaltender Landon Miller (18 saves), and Mignosa (one goal, one assist). The Rangers struggled with discipline, committing five penalties during the match, a point of concern for head coach Jussi Ahokas, who remarked, “You have to be smarter. I didn’t like our second period. The first and third we had some chances, but the second period was not our hockey.”
Currently, the Rangers hold a record of 12-5-2-0 with 26 points, placing them third in the Midwest Division. The team is determined to shake off this setback as they look to regain momentum on Saturday night against the Guelph Storm, with puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m..
Fans are urged to rally behind their team as they seek to end this losing streak and return to their winning ways. Stay tuned for updates as the Rangers aim to bounce back on the road!
