Brandon University and Assiniboine College Prepare for Active Week

As students return from their fall break, both Brandon University and Assiniboine College are gearing up for a week filled with events aimed at enhancing student life and engagement. Key activities include academic seminars, sports competitions, and cultural celebrations, providing ample opportunities for students to participate and connect.

Brandon University Events

Classes at Brandon University resumed following the fall break, with the highlight of the week being the **Long Night Against Procrastination**. Scheduled for November 17, 2025, this event takes place at the John E. Robbins Library from **19:00** until **02:00**. It offers students a free and safe environment for studying, along with snacks and academic support to help them navigate this critical point in the semester.

In addition, the Science Seminar Series features a talk by Rory Lucyshyn-Wright from the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science on **November 19** at **14:30**. His lecture will delve into category theory, axiomatics, and abstraction in mathematics. Students can attend in person or join online by contacting [email protected] for further details.

The Bobcats basketball teams will also be in action this weekend, hosting the Regina Cougars. The women’s game is set for **18:00** on **November 18**, followed by the men’s team at **20:00**. The teams will continue their matchups on **November 19** with the women playing at **17:00** and the men at **19:00**.

Musical events are on the calendar as well, starting with a Canada Music Week concert on **November 22** at **15:00** in the RD Bell Hall. Organized by the Brandon and Westman Registered Music Teachers’ Association, this concert will feature talented music students celebrating Canadian composers. Admission is by donation.

Later in the week, on **November 24**, a performance titled **Trio Improbable!** will take place at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall at **19:30**, featuring clarinetist Colin Mehmel, horn player Callie Sieverson, and pianist Danielle Guina. This event is free and open to all.

Finally, Linda Ruan, winner of the E-Gré National Music Competition, will perform at the Lorne Watson on **November 25** at **19:30**. Tickets are priced at **$20** for general admission, while students from BU and the Conservatory of Music can attend for free.

Brandon University Theatre will present **Mother Courage and her Children**, a dark comedy with music, from **December 3 to 7**. Assiniboine College Activities

At Assiniboine College, excitement builds for the **Multicultural Food & Fashion Show**, taking place on **November 17** at **12:00**. Additionally, the Assiniboine Students’ Association will hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on the same day in the Cafeteria Classroom at the Victoria East Campus from **15:45** to **17:30**. More details are available through the same website.

A Food Security Initiative has been introduced to assist students facing food shortages. On **November 20**, students can create mini hampers and select a variety of food items for just **$5** at the ACSA Event Space from **11:00** to **14:00**. Payment will be accepted in cash, debit, or credit.

The college will host its second holiday feast on **December 3 and 4**, featuring a hot and cold buffet complemented by a dessert room. This event highlights food grown at Assiniboine’s North Hill campus as part of its field-to-fork approach. Tickets will go on sale on **November 25** starting at **10:00**, with a limit of four tickets per caller.

A **Trades Program Mixer** is planned for **December 4** from **16:00** to **17:30** at the Mazer Group Main Street in the Len Evans Centre for Trades & Technology. This mixer aims to connect students in the trades program.

Lastly, the college’s Alumni Association is preparing for its annual Retiree Holiday Coffee Party, scheduled for **December 10** at the Victoria Avenue East campus starting at **09:30**.
