Samsung Galaxy S26 Series Set to Outweigh iPhone 17 Models
The weight specifications for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S26 series have been revealed, suggesting that all three models will be lighter than their Apple iPhone 17 counterparts. According to renowned tipster Ice Universe, the Galaxy S26 is expected to weigh 164 grams, while the Galaxy S26+ will come in at 191 grams. The Galaxy S26 Ultra, the flagship model, is anticipated to weigh 214 grams.
Comparative Thickness and Possible Discrepancies
Ice Universe also provided insights into the thickness of the Galaxy S26 series, comparing it to the iPhone 17 lineup. There is, however, some skepticism regarding the reported thickness of the Galaxy S26, which raises questions about its weight accuracy. The most recent prototype of the Galaxy S26 was measured at 6.96 mm thick (excluding the camera bump). If the final design aligns with this figure, it is projected that the Galaxy S26 will ultimately measure around 7.24 mm in thickness.
In contrast, the reported thickness of the Galaxy S26+ and Galaxy S26 Ultra appears consistent with earlier CAD renders, lending some credibility to those measurements.
Weight Comparison with iPhone 17 Series
The implications of these weight differences are noteworthy, particularly as all three Galaxy S26 models are expected to be lighter than their iPhone 17 equivalents. For instance, the Galaxy S26 and S26+ models could be approximately 13 grams lighter than their iPhone counterparts. The flagship Galaxy S26 Ultra is projected to be 17 grams lighter than the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
The entire Galaxy S26 series is set to formally launch in January 2024. While various reports have emerged regarding the launch, Samsung has yet to confirm specific details. Initially, there were plans to introduce the Galaxy S26 Pro and Galaxy S26 Edge; however, the company has since reverted to the simpler naming of Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26+.
As anticipation builds for the launch, consumers and tech enthusiasts alike are eager to see how these new devices will compete in a crowded smartphone market. The lighter weight of the Galaxy S26 models may appeal to users seeking a more comfortable device without compromising on performance or features.
