Urgent: 150 Attend Funeral for 8-Year-Old Gandom Taheri
UPDATE: A somber community gathered in Squamish, B.C. on November 19, 2025, for the funeral of 8-year-old Gandom Taheri, who tragically died after falling from a balcony at her father’s Vancouver apartment on November 11. More than 150 friends and family members came together to honor her memory during this devastating time.
Attendees described Gandom as a kind and gentle spirit, with family friend Sukhi Sandhu stating, “It’s a very tough, emotional day for all of us.” The loss has deeply affected those who knew her, particularly her mother, Masha Hedayatzadeh, a respected director at the local Willowbrae Academy. “Gandom was full of life, and I can’t imagine she’s gone. It’s very heartbreaking,” Sandhu added.
During the service, memories of Gandom were shared, highlighting her love for making bracelets and her special bond with younger children. “She had amazing friendships in her school in Squamish, and her friends from her previous school in Vancouver are devastated,” Sandhu remarked. Gandom’s passion for Persian music, art, and even simple pleasures like popcorn were fondly remembered by those in attendance.
The community has rallied around Gandom’s family, raising over $41,000 through an online fundraiser to assist with funeral expenses and support Hedayatzadeh during this difficult time. “It’s going to be a very, very tough journey ahead,” Sandhu noted. “We are there for her.”
Authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding Gandom’s death. Sgt. Steve Addison of the Vancouver Police Department confirmed that they have gathered significant details regarding the incident. “We have a clear picture of what transpired but we are going to share those findings with her family before we share them publicly,” he said.
This tragic event has not only left a mark on the local community but has also drawn attention to the importance of safety in residential settings. The outpouring of grief and support reflects the profound impact Gandom had on those around her.
As Gandom’s family begins the long road to healing, the community continues to stand united in remembrance of a bright young girl whose life, though short, made a lasting impression. The next steps include ongoing support from the community and the completion of the police investigation into the events leading up to this heartbreaking incident.
