Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, will welcome the 2026 Western Canada AA Baseball Championships, a significant event for young athletes. The announcement comes after the successful bid by the Prince Albert Minor Baseball Association (PAMBA), confirmed in August 2023. The championships will feature three age categories: 13U, 15U, and 18U, drawing teams from British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, and two teams from Saskatchewan.

Nathan Noble, president of PAMBA, expressed enthusiasm about the event, stating, “This is the highest level of AA that there will be in Western Canada.” The championships promise to showcase the region’s top young talent and foster community spirit. Noble highlighted the hard work of volunteers and the strength of the local baseball community in achieving this milestone.

In preparation for the championships, Noble noted that the committee will collaborate closely with partners, sponsors, and supporters. He emphasized that recent upgrades to local baseball facilities have positioned Prince Albert well for hosting the event. “There’s not much that really needs to be changed,” he said.

One area identified for improvement is the addition of restroom facilities at Andy Zwack Field in Prime Minister’s Park. The need arises from the removal of a nearby bridge, which has altered access to the park. Noble stated, “We are looking to add some kind of washroom facility… but other than that, it’s just getting them in as good a shape as possible. We have everything that we need to host.”

The upcoming championships follow a successful summer for Prince Albert, which recently hosted the World Softball Championship. This previous event set a strong precedent for the city’s capability to manage large-scale sports competitions, further bolstering community confidence in hosting the baseball championships.

As anticipation builds for the 2026 Western Canada AA Baseball Championships, the focus now shifts to ensuring that all preparations are completed in time for the event. This championship will not only highlight young athleticism but also reinforce the role of sports in community engagement and development in Prince Albert.
