Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is at risk of losing his final remaining honour as investigations into the activities of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein continue. The 65-year-old, who maintains his innocence, recently lost his titles of prince and Duke of York. He now faces the possibility of losing the Freedom of the City of London, one of the world’s oldest civic honours, which he acquired “by virtue of patrimony” as his father, Prince Philip, had previously held the title. Discussions regarding the honour are ongoing within the City of London Corporation, which has signalled that it is considering the circumstances under which such titles can be revoked.

An insider from the City Corporation stated, “Applications via patrimony are not considered by our elected members. The City Corporation is listening, and will continue to listen, to concerns raised.” This development indicates a potential shift in how honours are granted and maintained in light of emerging allegations.

Mountbatten-Windsor had previously agreed to stop using his titles; however, he expected to retain his status as a prince and duke, especially ahead of the anticipated publication of Giuffre’s memoirs, in which she alleges he sexually assaulted her as a teenager.
