UPDATE: In a significant move for the bike parts industry, Dustin Adams, a prominent entrepreneur from Kamloops, B.C., has officially become the CEO of Industry Nine, a leading international bike parts manufacturer based in Asheville, N.C. This transition comes after Adams sold his company, We Are One Composites, earlier this year, marking a pivotal moment in his career and the future of bike manufacturing.

Just announced, Adams expressed his eagerness to expand into the U.S. market, a goal he has pursued for years. “I think the timing was right,” he stated in an interview with CBC. The acquisition not only positions Industry Nine for growth but also retains the manufacturing base in Kamloops, ensuring local jobs remain secure.

Adams founded We Are One Composites with a vision to produce high-quality bicycle parts, specifically carbon fibre bike rims, targeting high-end mountain bike enthusiasts. His dedication to innovation drove him to create a unique product line that captured the attention of international markets.

This strategic acquisition enables both companies to benefit from CUSMA-compliant operations, allowing seamless inter-company transfers of finished products and materials, thus avoiding tariffs. “We have the ability now to… do inter-company transfers,” Adams explained, highlighting the advantages this merger brings to both sides of the border.

Importantly, Adams reassured local employees that their jobs are safe. “Everybody that was there when we did the acquisition is still there,” he confirmed, emphasizing plans to increase staffing and expand operations in Kamloops. This commitment reflects Adams’ dedication not only to his new role but also to the community that supported his entrepreneurial journey.

As he navigates this hybrid role between Kamloops and Asheville, Adams is excited about the prospects ahead. He will also oversee operations in Spain, adding another layer to his responsibilities. The support from the U.S. company, which was one of We Are One Composites’ largest customers, is expected to enhance production capabilities and market reach.

Adams remains optimistic about the future, stating, “The opportunity is so good to grow and get bigger now that I’m in control. I’m super happy.” While he refrained from disclosing the exact sale price, he acknowledged that it was a deal that would benefit all stakeholders involved.

This bold move signals a new chapter for both Adams and the bike parts industry, promising innovation and growth in a competitive market. As the bike community watches closely, the implications of this merger will likely resonate far beyond Kamloops and Asheville.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as Dustin Adams embarks on his new journey in the bike manufacturing sector.
