Canadian Speedskater Dandjinou Clinches Gold in Two Events
UPDATE: Canadian speedskating sensation William Dandjinou has just secured gold medals in both the men’s 500- and 1,500-metre events at the ISU Short Track World Tour held in Gdansk on November 22, 2025. This remarkable achievement marks a significant moment for Canada in the competitive world of speedskating.
Dandjinou dominated the men’s 500 metres, finishing with an impressive time of 40.849 seconds. He continued his winning streak in the 1,500 metres, crossing the line at 2:24.153, leading for 11 of the 14 laps. His closest competitor, Italy’s Thomas Nadalni, finished just behind at 2:24.215.
This victory comes during an exceptional day for Canada, which also saw Courtney Sarault from Moncton, N.B., take silver in the women’s 1,000 metres with a time of 1:30.575. Sarault trailed behind Belgium’s Hanne Desmet, who won gold in 1:30.422.
Furthermore, Steven Dubois from Lachenaie, Quebec, clinched bronze in the men’s 500 metres, finishing in 41.505 seconds, just behind Dandjinou and China’s Lin Xiaojun, who clocked in at 41.120 seconds.
This four-medal haul underscores Canada’s strength in short-track speedskating as the competition continues Sunday. Fans and sports enthusiasts are keenly watching as Dandjinou and his fellow athletes aim for further success.
