Sauk Valley Community College (SVCC) is now enrolling students for its free Adult Education programs, which include GED and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes starting on January 20, 2024. These programs aim to assist adults in achieving their personal, academic, and professional aspirations.

The GED classes prepare participants to successfully complete four subject tests in language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science. These classes are designed not only to enhance academic skills but also to build confidence, enabling students to earn their high school equivalency diploma. Many graduates of the program go on to pursue higher education or vocational training, opening doors to employment opportunities that were previously unattainable.

In parallel, the ESL classes cater to adults seeking to improve their English reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. The curriculum emphasizes practical communication and vocabulary essential for success in daily life, work environments, and educational settings. Classes are available for all proficiency levels, from beginners to advanced learners, and are conducted in a supportive and inclusive atmosphere.

Currently, SVCC is particularly encouraging new enrollments for its evening ESL class held at the Dixon YMCA. Orientation sessions will be conducted throughout January to facilitate registration for new students prior to the commencement of classes.

Both the GED and ESL programs are completely free, representing a valuable opportunity for individuals to take significant steps toward educational advancement and personal growth. To learn more or to register for an orientation session, interested individuals can visit svcc.edu/adulted or contact the Adult Education department at 815-835-6312.

Sauk Valley Community College is committed to helping adults unlock new opportunities and enhance their futures. Located at 173 IL Rt. 2, Dixon, IL 61021, SVCC serves as a cornerstone of education and community development in the region.
