Brandon Ingram Thrives in Toronto, Leading Raptors to Success
TORONTO – Brandon Ingram has made a significant impact since joining the Toronto Raptors, especially evident in their recent victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers on March 15, 2024. Ingram scored a season-high 37 points, leading the Raptors to a 110-99 win, marking his highest total since he recorded 32 points for the New Orleans Pelicans on November 16, 2024.
Ingram’s enthusiasm for being part of the Raptors is palpable. He attributes much of his positive experience to head coach Darko Rajakovic, who brings an infectious energy to the locker room. “I guess Darko coming into the locker room, yelling,” Ingram said with a laugh. “He’s the leader of our team. He makes sure we bring it to practice, to games, to shootarounds.” This daily motivation is something Ingram cherishes, stating, “That, for me, is the best part about being here: a coach who is present every single day.”
During the game against Cleveland, Ingram showcased his offensive prowess, particularly in the third quarter, where he scored 15 points. His ability to adapt to the defensive strategies of the Cavaliers highlighted his skills. “I felt good tonight. Just threw myself out there and was in the flow of the game,” Ingram reflected on his performance. His confidence was evident as he continued to take shots without tiring.
Raptors point guard Jamal Shead praised Ingram’s ability to perform under pressure. “When he gets going like that, he’s proven it time and time again… give him the ball,” Shead stated. “He’s not going to just shoot it every time, he’ll make the right play.” Ingram’s versatility on both ends of the court was evident, and Rajakovic commended his defensive contributions, noting his seven defensive rebounds and a steal during the game.
The Raptors’ victory extended their winning streak to eight consecutive games, a remarkable turnaround from last season. They now hold a record of 12-1 over their past 13 games, placing them first in the Atlantic Division, two games ahead of the New York Knicks. Ingram humorously recalled when he last experienced such success, saying, “(Expletive). High school?” He emphasized the team’s focus on day-to-day improvement rather than dwelling on the streak.
Looking ahead, the Raptors will host the Indiana Pacers, who are struggling with a record of 2-15, on March 18, 2024. The Raptors are optimistic about maintaining their momentum and continuing their successful run. Shead remarked, “We saw the potential last year, and it’s really cool to see it kind of sprout. I think everybody’s been tremendous.”
As the season progresses, Ingram’s presence and performance will undoubtedly be crucial for the Raptors as they aim to build on their current success and secure a strong position in the Eastern Conference standings.
