UPDATE: CBC Hamilton’s Make The Season Kind holiday campaign kicks off December 5, 2023, aiming to combat food insecurity in the city. This initiative, which supports Hamilton Food Share, invites the community to donate and make a difference for those struggling to meet their basic needs.

Since its inception in 2012, the campaign has raised over $64 million for food banks and charities across Canada. This year’s effort will spotlight the pressing issue of hunger in Hamilton and introduce residents to the dedicated individuals working tirelessly to provide for those in need.

As the campaign unfolds, CBC Hamilton will share stories highlighting the dire situation faced by many. Earlier in 2024, reports revealed that student-led programs played a crucial role in alleviating hunger on local campuses. Additionally, the Flamborough Food Bank reported a surge in demand, with families struggling to pay bills amid rising costs.

In a recent statement, Michael Troskot, director of The Good Shepherd Centre, emphasized the growing reliance on their food bank services. “We’ve seen just since 2022 almost a 40 percent increase in people registering and coming for service,” Troskot shared, highlighting the urgency of the situation.

Hamilton Food Share collaborates with 16 hunger relief agencies and operates 22 emergency food programs, demonstrating the extensive network of support available. Donations to Hamilton Food Share will be accepted until December 31.
