Vancouver Canucks Eye New York Rangers’ Jusso Parssinen on Waivers
URGENT UPDATE: The Vancouver Canucks are poised to make a significant move as Jusso Parssinen, a 6-foot-3 center previously with the New York Rangers, has hit the waiver wire. This development comes just hours ago, raising questions about the Canucks’ strategy to bolster their roster with younger talent.
Parssinen, who was expected to be a key player for the Rangers this season, found himself on the sidelines after being surpassed by rookie Noah Laba. With the Canucks actively seeking to improve their center depth, this could be a pivotal moment for both the player and the franchise.
The Finnish center first made waves during his debut in the 2021-22 NHL season with the Nashville Predators, where he showcased his potential by scoring six goals and accumulating 25 points in just 45 games. However, his performance has fluctuated since then, dipping to only eight goals and 12 points in 44 games during the 2022-23 season.
Parssinen’s journey through the league has been tumultuous. After being traded from Nashville to the Colorado Avalanche in December 2024, he switched teams again in a deal that sent defenseman Ryan Lindgren to Colorado. Now, with the Rangers waiving him, Parssinen stands at the brink of joining his fourth team within a year.
The Canucks must consider not only Parssinen’s potential but also the implications of his contract. He is currently in the first year of a two-year deal worth $1.25 million per season. If claimed, the Canucks would be unable to bury his contract should they decide to waive him again, adding a layer of complexity to their decision.
Fans and analysts alike are watching closely as the Canucks weigh their options. Claiming Parssinen could provide a significant upside, potentially more than David Kämpf and with stronger defensive reliability compared to Lukas Reichel.
Stay tuned for updates as this story develops. The NHL landscape is shifting, and the next move could reshape the Canucks’ season.
