Mintos Stage Dramatic Comeback, Score 4 Goals in Final 12 Minutes
UPDATE: In a breathtaking turnaround, the Prince Albert Mintos scored four unanswered goals in the final 12 minutes, clinching a 5-4 victory over the Battlefords Stars on November 28, 2023, at the Art Hauser Centre. With just under 14 minutes left in the game, the Mintos were trailing 4-1, but rallied for an unforgettable comeback.
“It was nuts,” exclaimed Mintos defenceman Barret Berger, whose crucial goal at 3:02 left in the third period equalized the game. The excitement peaked when Staiden Parenteau netted the game-winner just seconds later, igniting celebrations among fans and teammates alike.
The situation looked dire for the Mintos when Noah Larre of the Battlefords fired a wrist shot over the shoulder of starting goaltender Wyatt Nelson, extending their lead to 4-1 early in the third period. In a bold move, Mintos coach Dion Antisin pulled Nelson, replacing him with rookie Jaden Blanchette. This decision proved pivotal, sparking a dramatic shift in momentum.
Antisin praised the team’s resilience, stating, “We just said on the bench, ‘keep playing our style of hockey.’” The Mintos executed their game plan effectively, bombarding the Stars’ defense and capitalizing on every opportunity.
Forward Xander Pritchard was instrumental during the comeback, scoring two quick goals that energized the team. “He has probably been one of our most consistent forwards,” Antisin noted, highlighting Pritchard’s work ethic and tenacity.
Berger’s game-tying goal was also critical, coming off a fortunate bounce that caught the Battlefords’ goaltender off guard. “It was just luck,” Berger commented, showcasing humility amid the jubilation.
Parenteau sealed the deal with a stunning wrist shot that hit the post and went in, marking his first goal of the season. The Mintos’ comeback not only snapped their two-game losing streak but also left the Stars shocked and silent on the ice.
Despite the thrilling win, both Berger and Antisin acknowledged the need for improvement. The Mintos have struggled with slow starts, having fallen behind in previous games. Antisin emphasized the importance of addressing this issue moving forward, stating, “Knowing that we can play this good and come back in games is great, but to get out to a good start would be better for us in the long run.”
With the Mintos heading into December on a high note, fans are hopeful that this comeback victory will serve as a turning point for the remainder of the season.
WHAT’S NEXT: The Prince Albert Mintos look to build on this momentum in their upcoming matchups, aiming to improve their early-game performance and secure more victories. Stay tuned for updates as the Mintos continue their quest for success in the league.
