Viral Fake Grand Theft Auto VI Video Sparks Outrage Among Gamers
URGENT UPDATE: A fake video claiming to showcase leaked footage of the anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI has gone viral, igniting intense backlash from the gaming community. The video, which accumulated over 8 million views in less than 24 hours, was posted on the platform X (formerly Twitter) but has since been removed.
The video, shared by the account Zap Actu GTA6, depicted the main character Lucia navigating a fictionalized version of Florida, according to IGN. The account owner stated that the video aimed to “observe people’s reactions” and highlight how easily reality can be blurred with AI-generated content in 2025. In a follow-up post, the account holder described the project as a “huge joke” intended for entertainment, apologizing for any confusion caused.
However, the response has been overwhelmingly negative, with many gamers expressing their outrage online. “Disgusting behaviour,” one user commented, while others called for the account to be banned. Despite the backlash, Zap Actu GTA6 assured followers they will focus on sharing “official, verified GTA VI news” moving forward.
The timing of this incident is critical, as Rockstar Games has only released two short trailers and limited screenshots for the highly anticipated title, which is now set for release on November 19, 2026, following two major delays. The game has been a topic of speculation and excitement, with the last installment selling over 200 million copies since its launch in 2013.
As fake videos proliferate online, the gaming community is becoming increasingly wary. Earlier this year, YouTuber Jeffery Phillips successfully tricked Google’s AI Overview search tool into amplifying a false claim about the game. Such incidents underscore growing concerns about the influence of AI on content authenticity.
As of now, IGN‘s news director, Wesley Yin-Poole, highlighted the potential for creators to earn revenue from viral content, raising questions about motivations behind such misleading posts. “There’s a new GTA VI rumor pretty much every day of the week,” he noted, emphasizing the challenge for companies like Rockstar to manage misinformation.
Moving forward, the gaming community is urged to remain vigilant against fake content as the anticipation builds for Grand Theft Auto VI. For now, gamers are left with more questions than answers, and the need for verified information has never been more pressing.
