New Aylmer Water Tower Online: Boosting Community Growth Now
UPDATE: A new water tower in Aylmer, Ontario, is now operational, ensuring reliable water pressure for the growing community. Officially commissioned on September 29, 2023, this new facility addresses critical water needs as the region braces for significant expansion.
Mayor Jack Couckuyt stated, “There is a great need in Aylmer right now, and in the area around Aylmer as well.” The new composite elevated tank, with a capacity of approximately 7.6 million litres, more than doubles the old tower’s capacity from the 1980s. This upgrade comes at a time when Aylmer is experiencing rapid growth, particularly with the upcoming PowerCo EV battery plant in nearby St. Thomas.
The new water tower is strategically located in AIM Park, Aylmer’s latest business development area, and will not only serve Aylmer but also assist surrounding communities like Central Elgin and Malahide. It will also provide essential water supply to the Ontario Police College, located on the northeastern edge of Aylmer.
Rob Flack, MPP for Elgin-Middlesex-London, emphasized the importance of infrastructure, stating, “We have to make sure the infrastructure is in place. Water being a key component.” The project, funded through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program’s Green Infrastructure stream, received almost $2 million from Ontario and $2 million from the federal government, totaling approximately $4.9 million.
The new tower not only enhances water supply but also improves fire safety for local departments. Couckuyt highlighted the multifaceted role of the water system, noting that improved flow and pressure will significantly benefit fire services in Aylmer and its neighboring municipalities.
As new housing projects emerge around the water tower, the future looks bright for Aylmer and its surrounding areas. The previous water tower will be decommissioned, with demolition plans yet to be scheduled.
The impact of this new infrastructure is profound, setting the stage for sustained growth and development in Aylmer and beyond. Residents and businesses alike are encouraged to share this exciting news as the community embarks on a new chapter in its development.
Stay tuned for further updates on how Aylmer continues to evolve with this critical infrastructure in place.
