Urgent: Man Charged After Child Grabbed in Winnipeg School
BREAKING: Winnipeg police have charged a 28-year-old man after he allegedly grabbed a child in the bathroom of an elementary school on November 28, 2025. The incident, which sent shockwaves through the community, occurred when the suspect reportedly entered the school, hid in a bathroom stall, and confronted the child shortly after they exited another stall.
According to police reports, officers were called to the scene in the south end of Winnipeg after the child managed to break free and inform a teacher about the alarming encounter. The suspect fled the scene but was later apprehended at a nearby mall. He now faces serious charges including assault, forcible confinement, and violating a prohibition regarding children.
Police spokesperson Const. Dani McKinnon confirmed that the accused is known to authorities and has a prior criminal history involving children. Thankfully, the child did not sustain any physical injuries and is now safe, with police actively working with the family to provide support.
“This incident highlights the importance of safety awareness,” McKinnon stated in a press briefing. “Parents and guardians should engage in conversations about safety with their children. If something feels wrong, they should always tell a trusted adult.”
The Winnipeg community is urged to remain vigilant. McKinnon emphasized, “The light at the end of the tunnel is that this child was not harmed physically, thank God. But we must all remain alert to ensure the safety of our children.”
As police investigations continue, residents are reminded to report any suspicious activity. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for heightened awareness in public spaces, particularly in schools where children should feel safe.
Authorities are now assessing security measures within local schools to prevent similar incidents in the future. The community’s response will be crucial in fostering a safe environment for all children.
