Holiday Markets Ignite Festive Spirit Across Calgary This Weekend
UPDATE: Calgary is brimming with festive cheer as multiple holiday markets spring to life this weekend. Just announced, the Honky Tonk Market at Legion #1 downtown showcases around 20 local vendors offering western wear, vintage clothing, and unique crafts. This vibrant market also features delicious food from Tubby Dog and live tunes from the all-female band, the Haybells, creating a lively atmosphere for holiday shoppers.
Organizer Laura Graham emphasized the market’s mission: “We created it to give local businesses an opportunity to succeed and showcase their art or curation… and be a fun place for customers to come.” The market is open through Sunday, providing a perfect chance for locals to support small businesses during this crucial time.
Meanwhile, at Century Downs, the highly anticipated 10th edition of their winter market, or Weihnachtsmarkt, has transformed two barns into a festive wonderland. With more than 130 local artisans participating, visitors can enjoy crafts, live music, and a mouth-watering selection of Austrian delicacies crafted by Century Downs’ chef, including goulash, pretzels, mulled wine, and special hot chocolate. Marketing coordinator Kaitlin Curran highlighted, “We have pretty much everything under the sun – and it is a beautiful sunny day.” The market continues through Sunday, inviting families to experience its holiday magic.
In the south end of the city, the event Under the Stars at Taza Park: A Holiday Story is offering a family-friendly market filled with festive activities. Attendees can enjoy photos with Santa, storytelling sessions with Tsuut’ina Elders, and a variety of workshops for children, including a letters to Santa station featuring artwork by Tsuut’ina artist Keegan Starlight. This festive event runs from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, with another market planned for next weekend at Buffalo Run. Senior community experience coordinator Ruby Kaur expressed enthusiasm, stating, “It’s our first holiday event under the stars at Taza Park and we’ve got lots of activities!”
Additionally, the Inglewood Night Market, featuring over 50 businesses, opened its doors Saturday at 4 p.m., further enhancing Calgary’s vibrant holiday scene.
With these events, Calgary is transforming into a festive hub, offering residents and visitors alike the chance to immerse themselves in the spirit of the season. Support local artisans, enjoy delightful food, and create lasting memories with family and friends during this bustling holiday weekend. Don’t miss out—these markets are a must-visit for the community!
